MUNICIPAL & COMMUNITY
City of London Office Relocation
G architects served as Prime Consultant for the City of London Office Relocation at Citi Plaza, a 56,000 square foot interior renovation and fit-out within a mixed-use commercial complex in downtown London, Ontario. Commissioned in December 2016 by the Citi Plaza Landlord, Avison Young, the project relocated multiple City departments from Market Tower into an active retail and office environment.
The renovation accommodated approximately 230 City staff across Social Services, Neighbourhood, Child and Fire Services, Financial Services, Housing, and Parks and Recreation. The design involved a comprehensive interior reconfiguration to support diverse municipal functions while responding to the constraints of an operating mall and adjacent tenants. The workplace integrates offices, meeting and collaboration spaces, secure filing and storage, and staff amenities, with public-facing areas designed for clarity and accessibility and back-of-house spaces prioritizing security, durability, and operational efficiency.
The final layout was developed through collaborative working sessions with a designated City of London Project Manager and Department Heads, ensuring departmental requirements, security needs, and shared-use spaces were fully integrated. Key considerations included security zoning, acoustic and audio-visual performance, base building integration, and ongoing coordination with the Landlord and building management to support continuous mall operations.
