City of Timmins Balloon Base
In 2021, G architects led the design of the Timmins Stratospheric Balloon Base — a 386-square-meter facility commissioned by the Canadian Space Agency and the Centre National d'Études Spatiales. Located in Timmins, Ontario, the site was selected as the ideal location for their new mid-latitude stratospheric balloon launch base.
The project demanded thoughtful, cost-conscious architectural solutions to accommodate the Agency’s specialized requirements and schedule constraints. G’s design responded to the unique scale and operational demands of the base, featuring a clear-span structure measuring 18 by 21 meters, large overhead doors for payload movement, in-floor heating for year-round use, and provisions for a future radar tower. The project exemplifies our team’s ability to manage technically complex, multi-stakeholder projects while delivering innovative, efficient, and future-ready facilities.
