Speakman API Kilo Laboratory

This project involved the transformation of 2,300 sq. ft. of existing office space into a state-of-the-art Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) Kilo Lab, supporting Eurofins Alphora’s growing High Potent Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient operations. The new lab was designed to enable advanced process development, scale-up, and GMP manufacturing activities in a controlled, high-containment environment.

G architects led the project from initial planning through to construction. Working in close collaboration with technical and quality assurance teams, the design team developed an efficient, highly functional layout that includes an API Kilo Lab, Quality Control lab, and associated support spaces. The scope encompassed full demolition of the existing space, followed by construction, equipment installation, start-up, and final commissioning - all completed on an accelerated 16-month schedule. The lab was designed to meet stringent regulatory and operational standards for HPAPI handling, including features that support personnel safety, contamination control, and product integrity. Custom casework, specialized HVAC systems, and carefully planned material flows were integrated into the design to support cGMP compliance and seamless day-to-day operations.

Phil Goodfellow served as Partner-in-Charge, with Luke Kimmerer as Project Manager, bringing their deep sectoral expertise in pharmaceutical lab design and project execution to ensure a seamless and successful delivery.
